WE BELIEVE THAT GRACE IS BIG ENOUGH
TO CHANGE A PERSON AND A CITY.
To put it simply, we are a family of missional disciples that are transforming Memphis by the gospel of grace for the glory of Christ. Our name, Christ City Church, is intentional, as who we are, how we behave, and what we do on a week by week, day by day basis all stem directly from it.
One of the issues that was causing division in the young church in the city of Corinth involved meat from animals that had been sacrificed in temples to Greek and Roman gods. Some of the new Christians were scandalized by idea of eating meat that had been offered to idols, while others felt freedom to eat up.
While Christians in Memphis today may not argue about food sacrificed to idols, we do divide over any number of secondary issues not clearly discussed in scripture. In our next mini-series, Something More than Free, we examine these "gray" issues. Are Christians free to drink alcohol and watch R-rated movies? What about the positions we hold on any number of political or social issues like education, abortion, war, gender roles, and racial justice? In places where it seems that the Bible is unclear, how should we respond to others who disagree with us?
The wisdom from Paul is that while freedom in Christ on secondary issues is real and important, there are four ultimate things that are even more important than our freedom: love, mission, true freedom, and the glory of God.
