THE LANGUAGE OF LAMENT

Pastor Drew Haltom

Psalm 13

David invites us into his lament, and in his lament we find language for our own lament. Lamenting is an invitation into intimacy with God, and in lamenting we find hope.

Psalm 55

Why should we lament? "Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy! Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and I moan..."

THE LORD HEARS ME

Psalm 116

Does God hear me? That's often a question of the heart, especially when we face times of trial in life. We may often feel that God does not hear our prayers, but the Psalmist appears to have unwavering confidence that God hears his prayers and in fact has delivered him over to rest. So how can we have that same confidence that we will be heard, that the Lord will "bend his ear" to hear us? This Psalm tells us more about what true hearing, deliverance, and gratitude looks like amid life's pain.
